Description

A delicious and hearty black bean burger that is easy to make.


Ingredients

  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
  • 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1 large egg (or 1 tbsp flaxseed meal + 3 tbsp water for vegan option)
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 burger buns
  • Toppings: lettuce, tomato, avocado, cheese (as desired)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your grill or skillet over medium heat.
  2. In a bowl, mash the black beans with a fork until mostly smooth.
  3. Add breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, cumin, chili powder, egg or flaxseed mixture, cilantro, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
  4. Form the mixture into four patties.
  5. Cook the patties on the grill or skillet for about 5-6 minutes on each side or until heated through and slightly crispy.
  6. Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.
  7. Assemble the burgers with desired toppings and serve.

Notes

  • For a spicier burger, add diced jalapeños.
  • These burgers freeze well; just cook them first and then freeze.
