Description
A delicious and hearty black bean burger that is easy to make.
Ingredients

- 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
- 1/2 cup breadcrumbs (plain or seasoned)
- 1/2 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp chili powder
- 1 large egg (or 1 tbsp flaxseed meal + 3 tbsp water for vegan option)
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 burger buns
- Toppings: lettuce, tomato, avocado, cheese (as desired)
Instructions
- Preheat your grill or skillet over medium heat.
- In a bowl, mash the black beans with a fork until mostly smooth.
- Add breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, cumin, chili powder, egg or flaxseed mixture, cilantro, salt, and pepper. Mix well.
- Form the mixture into four patties.
- Cook the patties on the grill or skillet for about 5-6 minutes on each side or until heated through and slightly crispy.
- Toast the burger buns on the grill or in a toaster.
- Assemble the burgers with desired toppings and serve.
Notes
- For a spicier burger, add diced jalapeños.
- These burgers freeze well; just cook them first and then freeze.
