Description

A hearty casserole that combines the flavors of cabbage rolls with the convenience of a slow cooker.


Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage, chopped
  • 1 pound ground beef or turkey
  • 1 cup uncooked rice
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (15 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup shredded cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brown the ground beef or turkey in a skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, cooking until softened.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the cabbage, rice, crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, Worcestershire sauce, oregano, basil, salt, and pepper.
  4. Add the meat mixture to the cabbage mixture and stir well.
  5. Pour the mixture into the crockpot.
  6. Cover and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 3-4 hours.
  7. If using cheese, sprinkle on top during the last 30 minutes of cooking.

Notes

  • Feel free to add other vegetables for more flavor.
  • Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to three days.
