  • Garlic: 3 cloves, minced
  • Tomato paste: 2 tablespoons
  • Flour: 2 tablespoons
  • Seafood or chicken broth: 4 cups
  • Heavy cream: 1 cup
  • Old Bay seasoning: 1 tablespoon
  • Paprika: 1 teaspoon
  • Bay leaf: 1
  • Salt: to taste
  • Pepper: to taste
  • Fresh parsley or chives: for garnish
  • Lemon wedges: for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Heat butter and olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  2. Add onion, celery, and carrots. Sauté until softened.
  3. Add minced garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  4. Stir in tomato paste and flour. Cook for 2 minutes.
  5. Slowly add broth while stirring to prevent lumps.
  6. Add Old Bay seasoning, paprika, bay leaf, salt, and pepper. Simmer for 15 minutes.
  7. Stir in shrimp and crab meat. Cook until shrimp is pink.
  8. Remove bay leaf and stir in heavy cream. Heat through.
  9. Serve hot, garnished with parsley or chives and lemon wedges.
