Description

Ingredients

  • Granulated Sugar: 2 tablespoons
  • Active Dry Yeast: 2 1/4 teaspoons (1 packet)
  • All-Purpose Flour: 4 cups
  • Salt: 1 teaspoon
  • Baking Soda: 1/4 cup (for dough), 2/3 cup (for pretzel bath)
  • Egg: 1 large, beaten
  • Cheddar Cheese: 1 cup, shredded
  • Mozzarella Cheese: 1/2 cup, shredded
  • Coarse Salt: For sprinkling

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
  2. Add flour, salt, and baking soda to the yeast mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 5 minutes until smooth.
  4. Let the dough rise in a greased bowl for 1 hour, covered with a cloth.
  5. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Divide the dough into equal pieces and flatten each piece. Add cheese filling and shape into pretzels.
  7. Bring water to a boil and add baking soda. Boil each pretzel for 30 seconds.
  8. Place boiled pretzels on baking sheets, brush with beaten egg, and sprinkle with coarse salt.
  9. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
