Description

Spicy Voodoo Shrimp is a flavorful dish featuring shrimp cooked in a zesty sauce with bold spices.


Ingredients

  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 teaspoon Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely diced
  • 1 small green bell pepper, finely diced
  • 1 celery stalk, finely diced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 cup chicken or seafood stock
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (adjust to taste)
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • Lemon wedges
  • Cooked white rice, grits, or crusty bread

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, toss the shrimp with Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper.
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add shrimp and cook until pink, about 2-3 minutes. Remove and set aside.
  4. In the same skillet, melt butter and add olive oil.
  5. Add onion, bell pepper, and celery. Sauté until soft.
  6. Add garlic and cook for another minute.
  7. Stir in tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, cayenne pepper, thyme, oregano, stock, hot sauce, salt, and black pepper.
  8. Simmer the sauce for 5-7 minutes.
  9. Add shrimp back to the skillet and stir to coat in the sauce.
  10. Cook until heated through, about 2 minutes.
  11. Serve garnished with parsley, lemon wedges, and your choice of rice, grits, or bread.

Notes

  • Adjust the heat by modifying the cayenne pepper and hot sauce.
  • Serve immediately for best flavor.
