Soft Maple Sugar Cookies with Maple Icing
Ingredients

- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (room temperature)
- 1/3 cup pure maple syrup (grade A amber or dark)
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1 tsp maple extract
- 1 large egg (room temperature)
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 tsp kosher salt
- 2 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- For the icing:
- 3 tbsp pure maple syrup
- 1/2 cup powdered sugar (sifted)
- A pinch of kosher salt
- 1 tbsp unsalted butter (melted and cooled)
- 1/4 tsp maple extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until smooth.
- Add the maple syrup, maple extract, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
- In another bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until combined.
- Drop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto a baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden.
- Let cookies cool on the sheet for a few minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
- For the icing, whisk together the maple syrup, powdered sugar, salt, melted butter, and maple extract until smooth.
- Drizzle the icing over the cooled cookies.
