Description

This recipe makes delicious homemade Krispy Kremes with a sweet glaze.


Ingredients

  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 3 tbsp boiling water
  • 1 tsp dry active yeast
  • 8 oz all purpose flour (a little under 2 cups)
  • 1 1/2 oz sugar (about 3 tablespoons)
  • 1 egg
  • 1 oz butter, cold to room temperature
  • Dash of salt
  • Enough oil to cover the bottom few inches of a wok or deep fryer
  • 1/3 cup butter for glaze
  • 2 cups confectioners’ sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 tablespoons hot water (or as needed)

Instructions

  1. Combine milk, boiling water, and yeast in a bowl and let it sit for 5 minutes.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
  3. Add the yeast mixture, egg, and butter to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for 1 hour.
  6. Roll out the dough and cut into donut shapes.
  7. Heat oil in a wok or deep fryer to 350°F (175°C).
  8. Fry the donuts until golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  9. For the glaze, melt butter and mix with confectioners’ sugar, vanilla extract, and hot water until smooth.
  10. Dip warm donuts into the glaze and let them cool on a rack.

  • Ensure the yeast is fresh for the best rise.
  • Adjust the glaze consistency with more hot water if needed.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container.
