Description

A delicious apple streusel pie with a flaky crust and a crunchy topping.


Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (for pie crust)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (for pie crust)
  • 1/2 cup cold solid shortening, such as Crisco (for pie crust)
  • 3 to 4 tablespoons ice water (for pie crust)
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (for streusel topping)
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats (do not use quick oats) (for streusel topping)
  • 1/2 cup light brown sugar, lightly packed (for streusel topping)
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon (for streusel topping)
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt (for streusel topping)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted and cooled (for streusel topping)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (for pie filling)
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (for pie filling)
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg (for pie filling)
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon (for pie filling)
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt (for pie filling)
  • 4 large Granny Smith apples (for pie filling)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (for pie filling)
  • 3 tablespoons half & half (for pie filling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour and salt for the pie crust.
  3. Add cold shortening and blend until crumbly.
  4. Stir in ice water until the dough forms.
  5. Roll out the dough and place it in a pie pan.
  6. In another bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt for the streusel topping.
  7. Stir in melted butter until crumbly.
  8. In a separate bowl, combine granulated sugar, flour, nutmeg, cinnamon, and salt for the filling.
  9. Peel and slice the apples, then toss with lemon juice.
  10. Add apple slices to the sugar mixture and stir until coated.
  11. Pour apple mixture into the pie crust.
  12. Sprinkle streusel topping over the apples.
  13. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.

Notes

  • Use Granny Smith apples for the best flavor.
  • Let the pie cool before serving.
  • Serve with vanilla ice cream for added flavor.
