Ingredients

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ½ cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ cup sour cream or plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 ½ cups peeled and diced apples (about 2 medium apples)
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour (for streusel)
  • ⅓ cup brown sugar packed (for streusel)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for streusel)
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter cold and cubed (for streusel)
  • ½ cup powdered sugar (optional glaze)
  • 12 tablespoons milk or cream (optional glaze)
  • ¼ teaspoon vanilla extract (optional glaze)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs and vanilla to the butter mixture and blend well.
  5. Stir in sour cream and diced apples.
  6. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture until just combined.
  7. Pour batter into a greased loaf pan.
  8. For the streusel, mix flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl.
  9. Add cold butter and mix until crumbly.
  10. Sprinkle streusel over the bread batter.
  11. Bake for 55-60 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  12. Let cool before adding optional glaze.

Notes

  • Store leftovers in an airtight container.
  • Use firm apples for best results.
  • Adjust sweetness by varying the sugar in the glaze.
