Description
A delicious apple slab pie with a flaky crust and sweet apple filling.
Ingredients

- 3 ¾ cups (470 grams) all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ tbsp sugar
- 1 ½ tsp table salt
- 3 sticks (12 oz or 340 grams) unsalted butter, cubed and kept very cold
- ¾ cup very cold water
- 3 ½ to 4 pounds apples, peeled, cored and chopped into approximately ½-inch chunks (about 10 cups)
- Squeeze of lemon juice
- ⅔ to ¾ cup sugar
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 1 rounded tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ground nutmeg
- ¼ tsp ground allspice
- ⅛ tsp table salt
- 2 tbsp heavy cream or 1 egg beaten with 1 tbsp water
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- In a large bowl, mix flour, sugar, and salt.
- Add cold butter and mix until crumbly.
- Stir in cold water until dough forms.
- Divide the dough in half, shape into disks, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
- Peel, core, and chop apples, then mix with lemon juice and sugar.
- Add cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, allspice, and salt to the apple mixture.
- Roll out one dough disk and place it in a baking pan.
- Fill with apple mixture and cover with second rolled-out dough.
- Brush top with heavy cream or egg wash.
- Bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.

- Adjust sugar based on apple sweetness.
- Use a mix of apple varieties for better flavor.
- Chill the dough to keep it flaky.
