Description

A classic apple pie with a buttery crust and spiced apple filling.


Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 ½ pounds apples, peeled and cored, then cut into wedges (about 5 large Honeycrisps)
  • ¼ teaspoon ground allspice
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¾ cup plus 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 recipe double pie dough or pre-made crust
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  3. Add apples, allspice, cinnamon, salt, sugar, flour, cornstarch, and vinegar. Mix well.
  4. Cook for about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally until apples soften.
  5. Roll out the pie dough and place it in a pie dish.
  6. Fill the crust with the apple mixture.
  7. Cover with the top crust, sealing the edges.
  8. Cut slits in the top crust to allow steam to escape.
  9. Brush the top with the beaten egg.
  10. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until the crust is golden brown.

Notes

  • Let the pie cool before slicing.
  • Serve with ice cream or whipped cream.
